Mesh extrusion is the process of spraying liquid plastic from openings in circular spinning heads, causing threads to form, which then overlap, fuse and form a tubular mesh. The mesh is stretched, cooled in water, then the tube is cut open and stabilized. The extrusion process creates a mesh structure where threads lie on top of each other, unlike fabrics
where threads are woven through under and above each other.
Applications
Extruded polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE) meshes and netting are used for many applications. Top Zeven focuses on industrial applications including extrusion meshes:
- As supporting mesh for membranes
- As a“feed spacer” in reverse osmosis filters
- as PBT mesh in fuel filters (100% recyclable when deployed with polyester non-woven mesh)
- as tubular protective sleeving
- as a separating layer in mattresses and other furniture
- as a protective medium between stacked products
- As a flowbed medium in composites production
- as support netting (possibly plotted) of nonwovens in air filters
Types and structures of extrusion mesh
There are all kinds of extruded mesh/net from different plastic types and with many different structures. In addition to PP and PE, Top Zeven also carries a number of extrusion meshes in PBT, PA, and EVA. Because of chemical resistance, temperature resistance, or other material-related characteristics, these meshes may be chosen.
